Immediately below  is information from 2010's highlighted event--the introduction of the Mikdash Lodge, for your information:

"AWAKE!" IS THE CALL OF THE RAM'S HORN BLAST, ANNOUNCING A TRULY SPECIAL OFFERING: TEACHINGS FROM ANCIENT TRIBAL JEWISH SHAMANISM, FOLLOWED BY CEREMONY WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE MUCH ANTICIPATED MIKDASH LODGE!  Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. until evening.

This is groundbreaking spiritual work that will resonate with earth oriented people of any religion.  From the sound of the ram's horn, to the ways of the ancients, this will be a full day of teachings and ceremony.  The Mikdash Lodge weaves together profound connecting elements from ancient shamanic Judaism, the Kabbalah, Core Shamanism, and Light healing.  Mindfulness, teachings, healing rituals and ceremony will unite us.  In substance, the Mikdash Lodge ceremony (similar to a Native American Sweat Lodge) provides participants with the opportunity to create sacred space within; and, from the place of mystery, to hear and follow their visions' call--through the dancing of spirit into matter, matter into form, and form into action. This Mikdash Lodge ceremony, which derives from tribal Judaism and direct shamanic revelation, owes tremendous gratitude to the example of the tribal Native Americans. Mikdash weaves together purification, visioning, growth and specifically Jewish cosmology; replete with teachings about how the mysteries of the human life journey are concealed in the ways of animals.  The Sacred Walk, Four Winds, Four Merkavot (Still Beings, Sprouting Beings, Wild Beings, Talking Beings) and a wealth of extended information shared on this day brings us from the nothingness of the void--and its mysterious allure--to the manifestation of our very being in the here and now.  Our purpose is to answer the primeval question God asked of Adam, "Where are you (in your heart)?" and assist us to get there.

The seed for Mikdash Lodge was inspired by reading (over and over) Magic Of the Ordinary by Rabbi Gershon Winkler, and is based on the teachings contained therein. It is published by North Atlantic Books, and is suggested reading (really suggested!).  “Gershon Winkler’s brilliance shines a light on the buried shamanic practices of Judaism.  (This book) is a treasure—I loved it and was deeply inspired by it,” wrote Sandra Ingerman, author of Soul Retrieval and Medicine For the Earth.

I was also deeply inspired, and the more I read the more I realized the common connections between ancient Judaism, a tribal, earth based way of life, and Shamanism.  I began to believe there was a sweat lodge ceremony in the making. The more I re-read the book, the more notes I made, the more shamanic work I did on the subject, the more I became compelled to develop and manifest this special sweat lodge ceremony!  Indeed, the whole concept of bringing forward the Mikdash Lodge into being directly mirrors the very work it is meant to represent.  I had the good fortune to speak of these matters with Rabbi Winkler, who was delighted!
PREREQUISITE:  None for the teachings; however, you must have prior sweat lodge experience to be inside the sweat lodge during that portion of the day.    All are encouraged to participate whether from inside the lodge or without, where there is much to see and experience, either way.

This instructive day begins at 9:30 a.m. and will end when it is over, sometime in the evening.  Participants bring a pot luck dish to share for celebrating after the Mikdash Lodge.  Light snacks will be provided earlier.  Fee:  $100 in advance.  $125.00 day of event,  space available.  Pre-registration by telephone or email required in advance regardless, please!  Discounts available for enrolled college students and the Lodge Crew.  Registration form below, please print and mail in.

A RESPONSE TO RECENT EVENTS IN Sedona, Arizona (October, 2009)
I was chatting with my dear friend Eileen today, about the scary incident that took place in a large sweatlodge as part of a "Spiritual Warrior" retreat in Sedona, Arizona. She suggested I address this, and I agree it is a good thing to do.  If you didn't hear about the incident, here's what happened:  People spent $9,000 to attend this retreat, which included a fasting/vision quest. There's your first clue that something was wrong!  Nobody should have to pay such exorbitant amounts of money to grow spiritually.

There was an enormous lodge built (over 45 feet), and 55 people were in it. Plastic tarps and blankets covered.  We no longer use plastic tarps on hot days, as the lodge doesn't breathe enough that way.  These people had been fasting (no water/food) for days on vision quest, then fed a breakfast buffet.  Clue number two:  It is best after a fast to start slowly, with soup, or yarrow tea.  Later in the day they went into the lodge where up to 20 people were overcome and 2 people died as a result.  We recommend people drink a lot of water before a lodge.

I remember a lodge following a fasting vision quest in Alaska where I was so raw, and so drained that I became overcome and needed to exit the lodge in the first round, and I was an experienced sweater.  You must pay attention...fasting is its own ceremony, and doesn't always work well with heat.  I know some people like to fast, and that is why I request that you tell me about it. When I am properly notified, I can keep an extra energetic link to a fasting person, and provide them with yarrow tea (wakes up the digestion gently) afterward.

Tom Brown, renowned author and founder of the Tracker School in New Jersey, has been pouring lodges of 100 people at a time, for decades with no incident.  I myself would not pour such a large lodge, nor would I want to be in one.  But it may be helpful for you to understand that WHOEVER is leading your lodge ceremony must be well trained and experienced. It is really ok to ask them about their background.  These days there are too many people who don't really know what they are doing, this is not a good thing.

The KEY COMPONENT to lodge safety, is that when you go into the lodge, be sure that the water pourer/leader is well trained, not just in the ceremony, but in the physiological aspects of the lodge.  If the leader says, "You need to get out now," please don't question that, just get out.  In our lodge, I am continually checking the heat index at the top of the lodge; it's dark so you don't see me, but I'm doing it.  I often call for extra door openings.  Our lodge is equipped with a "back" door in the West just in case we need to evacuate the lodge quickly for any reason.  You must take responsibility for your well being, even though others are looking out for you, too.

Most people love the sweats, find them healing and renewing.  These ways have been healing ways on this continent since LONG before European contact...they would not persevere if they were not successful.  My training was thorough, and the experiences I've had have brought amazing shifts in my personal life and spiritual evolution and our community.   Every lodge I say, "This is the safest place I know of".  And it is.

I have been attending lodges since 1991, and pouring lodges since 1994. With care for the people, and attention to the subtle energies in the lodge, it is almost always a positive, healthful experience for the participants.  Sometimes one can develop a headache, but there are ways to prevent and counteract that.

It is important that you eat LIGHTLY, but do eat something before going into the lodge.  I have always asked that people tell me beforehand if they are fasting.  This is important!  Once I had a participant do the lodge, and confess afterwards that he hadn't told me.  His subterfuge put us all at risk. The leader of your lodge ceremony needs to know these things.  It is also not a good idea to pack in a lot of food before a lodge.

You can drink Emergen-C before or after a lodge to hydrate, boost your electrolytes.  Ginger tea is good too, especially if you develop any mild physical discomfort.

Often, mild physical discomforts are to be expected and can occur in the lodge, but anything other than mild is an indication to get out.

At our lodges, we encourage participants to get out between rounds and lay on the cool earth, and breathe in fresh air, and drink water.  We are not in this for endurance.  We are in this for healing.

The request to avoid alcohol for 24 hours before a lodge is important.  Alcohol, and certain prescription drugs can make for a hard sweat for you.  If you are on antibiotics, check with the water pourer  before you go in the lodge.  Recently, I recommended a participant go in who had a sinus infection, which is benefited from the heat and the steam.  She had no difficulty and was glad, and I kept an extra link to her throughout.  If you've been drinking alcohol, don't go in the lodge.  And if you have a communicable disease, NEVER go into the lodge as you are putting others at risk.  A few common sense precautions can ensure that you have a wonderful, positive, healing, visioning experience.  Enjoy many wonderful lodges with confidence.

BLESSINGS FORWARD....
